Job Description
JOB TITLE: Computer Technology and Database Coordinator
Organizational relationship: The Computer Technology and Database Coordinator reports directly to the Statewide Network and Information Technology Project Manager and in his/her absence to the Managing Director.
JOB DEFINITION: The Computer Technology and Database Coordinator is responsible for managing the Center for Schools and Communities (CSC) helpdesk for all CSC related projects. This includes all client computers and related peripheral devices and applications. The Computer Technology and Database Specialist also develops databases in FileMaker Pro for CSC as needed, monitors database server backups and provides regular maintenance to database servers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates the day-to-day helpdesk operation of the CSC: acts as primary desktop support to CSC staff, records each helpdesk incident in tracking system, follows all helpdesk incidents through to resolution and records resolutions in tracking system.
- Integrates applications for use by CSC staff and clients.
- Plans and executes FileMaker database, design, development, testing and implementation. The databases must be secure, operational and effective.
- Provides ongoing maintenance and upgrades to all CSC databases housed at CSC.
- Works with CSC staff to change, modify and improve CSC databases as necessary, assuring the integrity and confidentiality of all data.
- Works with CSC staff to assess technical problems, identify and meet training needs and provide timely information to staff.
- Provides training for word processing, database, and spreadsheet software used by staff of CSC.
- Works cooperatively with CSIU technology staff in problem-solving technology needs and purchasing equipment and software via PEPPM.
- Interacts with vendors and technology experts to assess technology products and trends, resolves technical issues and plans for future growth and development for CSC.
- Educates on-site and out-posted staff, including regional office staff, regarding database development and implementation plans and their effect on staff.
- Identifies opportunities to create, participate in and strengthen partnerships (internal and external) which will enhance program and technology goals.
- Provides database reports to PDE, DOH, DPW, CSC Director and all approved agencies and individuals; including designing specialized reports based on data requests.
- Continuously develops and maintains up-to-date technology related skills through professional development programs.
- Works cooperatively with technology team members to meet all CSC technology needs
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of five (5) years experience in database support, design and maintenance is required or a combination of demonstrated experience, training and postsecondary education may be considered.
- Strong technical knowledge of network and operating systems.
- Strong understanding of FileMaker Pro relational database development.
- Experience and a working knowledge of current Microsoft technology and associated software, hardware and peripherals are required
- Strong understanding of hardware, software and the internet is essential, including issues related to installation, maintenance, desktop support, upgrades, back-up, security, accessibility for persons with disabilities, data management and procedure development.
- Knowledge of local/wide area networking is required.
- Extensive experience with all aspects of the Internet and the World Wide Web is required.
- Experience in coordinating multiple projects simultaneously is essential.
- The ability to train and instruct others is essential.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting of equipment and packaged materials (up to 60 pounds) as necessary.
- Ability to use a keyboard and telephone unassisted.
- Valid PA driver’s license and ability to drive.
Time and Site Requirements:
- This is a 12-month per year position with primarily daytime office hours in the Camp Hill/Harrisburg area.
- Some non-traditional hours may be required for network updating, backup or network failures.
- Some extra hours and occasional overnight travel will be necessary for training and to support outposted staff.
- Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
