Since 1988, the Center for Schools and Communities has been committed to improving outcomes for children and families through training, technical assistance, program evaluation, research and resource development.
The Center's work focuses on prevention and intervention initiatives operated by schools, organizations and agencies serving children, youth and families.
Center for Schools and Communities' staff have diverse backgrounds in education, human services, community development and the law, as well as specialized skills and experience in program development and design, evaluation, training and resource development. This combination of education and experience has enabled the Center to provide customized technical assistance to support the development of innovative programs in schools and communities.
Services and Resources
Training and Conferences
More than 15,000 people have attended training activities since the Center's inception in 1988. The Center for Schools and Communities coordinates trainings, conferences, teleconferences and in-service programs, primarily in Pennsylvania.Technical Assistance
Technical assistance is provided through on-site visits, telephone support, trainings and conferences, publications, resources, and websites. Every month the Center responds to an average of 2,200 requests for technical assistance on program development, staff training, data reporting and collection, best practices, legislation and resource identification.Evaluation
The Center offers a range of research and evaluation capabilities, including evaluation design, qualitative and quantitative analysis, reporting, and logic modeling. Additionally, the Center has established partnerships with universities and other state and national organizations to augment its evaluation capabilities.Publications
The Center for Schools and Communities develops issue papers and resource and best practice manuals on topics of interest to educators and child and family service professionals. Publications are available upon request by calling the Center or through the Center's web site, www.center-schools.org.Resource Library
The Center for Schools and Communities maintains a lending library of resources that are available to interested organizations and individuals. Materials focus on child, family and community issues, and include items on numerous cultures and ethnic groups, as well as some Spanish language videos and print materials.
