How to structure an advisory board in order to harvest the wisdom in those who are sitting around the table is the focus of the May First Monday online learning opportunity entitled "How to Get the Most Out Of Your Advisory Board". The presentation includes evaluation instruments to determine if you are getting maximum value for the time and money you invest in your advisory board. The session will be held on May 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM.

Michael Brand, Family Support & Community Development Coordinator from the Center for Schools and Communities, will be the presenter. 

This online learning opportunity is for Children's Trust Fund Grantees.

Act 48 Credits

The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, offers Act 48 professional development credit for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates. Participants must attend the online workshop from beginning to end to receive credit. A Center for Schools & Communities staff member will track your participation during the online session. Within five (5) business days of the completion of the session, you will receive, by e-mail, the required Act 48 form for completion. If you are interested in receiving Act 48 credit, please check the appropriate box on the online registration form.

 

About the First Monday Series

The First Monday Series is a year-long, one-hour online organizational development seminars designed for staff and management professionals of non-profit and grant- funded organizations.

This series is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Public Welfare in partnership with the Center for Schools and Communities.

The first session in the series was held on October 1 and the final session will be held on June 2, 2008.

The series will:

  • Introduce professionals to new management tools.
  • Offer new ways to think about current practices.
  • Explore emerging trends in human services and education.

Children's Trust Fund Presentations

Karen Shanoski, Family, School, Community Partnerships Project Manager, Center for Schools and Communities, offered a presentation entitled “Strengthening Families through Early Care and Education” at the Children’s Trust Fund pre-proposal conference on March 13, 2007. The presentation provides a brief overview of the Strengthening Families work at the national level.  The Strengthening Families approach is a focus of the 2007 CTF RFA.

Lynda Martino, Family Support & Community Development Coordinator, Center for Schools and Communities presented at the Children's Trust Fund pre-proposal conference on March 13, 2007. The presentation, entitled “Outcomes, Collaboration and Sustainability”, contains information related to the 2007 CTF Request for Application.  The presentation provides an overview of how to demonstrate impact of program services, how to construct a measurable outcome statement, how to fit program efforts into the context of the community that the program serves and how to use measurable outcomes and community partnerships to sustain program efforts.

Resource Packet Helps Service Providers Promote Healthy Families

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Child Welfare Information Gateway has created a resource packet to promote community awareness of key protective factors that prevent child abuse and neglect. The packet is targeted specifically for service providers who work with parents, other caregivers, and their children with the common goal of promoting healthy families.  For more information, click here.
