Education Leading to Employment and Career Training

an initiative of the Pennsylvania Departments of Public Welfare and Education

Research clearly shows that one of the most critical factors in determining future success for a pregnant or parenting teen is the attainment of a high school diploma. Those who leave school without a diploma often begin the journey of a lifetime of poverty and dependence on public welfare. Teenage pregnancy has serious implications for both parent and child. Children of adolescent parents are often at higher risk for health problems, developmental delays and learning problems when they reach school age.
