Job Description
JOB TITLE: Safe Schools Lead Coordinator
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Center for Safe Schools Lead Coordinator reports directly to the Center for Schools and Communities (CSC) Director.
JOB DEFINITION: The Center for Safe Schools Lead Coordinator has primary responsibility for assisting in the management and oversight of the development and implementation of training and technical assistance for statewide school safety, youth violence prevention, education mentoring, dropout prevention, bullying prevention, internet safety, emergency response and crisis management, alternative education and other related projects. The Coordinator will be responsible for oversight of site visitations, coordination of training and resource development and information gathering to assist schools and other organizations in the provision of quality services to children and families. This position will also provide day-to-day supervision of assigned staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Development and Planning:
- Assist Director in supervision of and work distribution to team members
- Research and implement new programs
- Ongoing research of model programs and projects in related areas
- Oversee the preparation of materials for posting on the web site
- Conduct research and develop resources for use in the field
- Develop and conduct training and professional development
- Oversee all aspects of grant process where the Center serves as fiscal agent, including monitoring and budget process, RFP development and grant review.
- Complete budget monitoring and tracking for these initiatives.
- Conduct ongoing research of model programs and projects in related areas, find experts and select vendors for services.
Project Implementation:
- Assist with the management of program activities for statewide initiatives, including implementation of trainings, workshops and conferences, grant administration and monitoring, provision of technical assistance (including on-site technical assistance), and preparing regular correspondence to the field
- Develop and coordinate technical assistance for appropriate entities
- Coordinate site visits among program staff
- Plan and implement conferences, trainings and in-service activities with team members
Liaison:
- Develop and maintain contacts with appropriate Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit staff, other service agencies and other related Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit programs
- Develop and maintain external working relationships with Pennsylvania Department of Education and other state and national organizations.
- Participate in Center staff meetings and participate in special meetings and/or task force meetings
- Represent the Director at state and national meetings as requested
- Attend specified conferences to remain current in the field
Data Collection/Evaluation:
- Assist in developing appropriate evaluation methods and data collection instruments for initiatives to demonstrate effectiveness of trainings.
- Assist in developing appropriate instruments to assess customer satisfaction.
- Plans and conducts project and training assessments to understand effectiveness and plan for continuous quality improvement.
- Assist with training statewide providers on use of instruments
- Assist with data collection and processing
- Assist in preparing reports
- Complete performance appraisals with assigned staff
Information Processing:
- Review and distribute regulation directives and other information pertinent to project operations
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports on project activities
- Prepare information for news releases and develop resource materials including publications
- Research and prepare correspondence and informal bulletins for statewide programs
- Prepare site visit, progress, and compliance reports.
Inter-project Coordination:
- Assist in coordinating Center projects to facilitate resource sharing and availability of services.
Project Management and Supervision:
- Assist with the supervision of professional staff assigned to Safe Schools team.
- Assist with ensuring the compliance with contracts and regulations.
- Coordinate, monitor and report program development and implementation of technical assistance, and training for assigned programs.
- Assist staff with other and special projects.
- Conduct regular team meetings w/assigned staff.
- Assure that a project plan is completed and implemented annually for each initiative.
- Assure that required reports are completed and submitted to Director for review.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Minimum requirements are a Bachelor's Degree in education or one of the social sciences and 5 years related experience in areas of school safety and youth violence prevention and 3 years supervisory experience; Master’s Degree and experience as above, preferred.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in effective youth violence prevention, bullying prevention, dropout prevention, and other school safety practices.
- Knowledge of processes related to government funding and educational agencies preferred.
- Excellent research skills, utilizing the internet as well as print and other sources.
- Excellent critical and analytical thinking skills.
- Understanding of program evaluation methodologies.
- Understanding of adult theories of learning and organizational training, experience in developing training.
- Excellent verbal skills, including public speaking experience.
- Excellent writing skills, including experience in writing for professional publications including resource and research articles, grants, web newsletters and correspondence.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple activities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with project management practices.
- Experience with work involving children, adolescents and families.
- Must be highly organized with excellent analytical ability.
- Must maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, trust, and confidence.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Current Act 151 (Child Abuse) and Act 34 (Criminal Record) and Act 114 (FBI Fingerprint) clearances are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
- Ability to pack, lift and move materials for meetings/conferences
- Ability to visit statewide program sites
- Ability to do public speaking
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard without assistance.
- Ability to use a telephone without assistance
- Ability to travel and a valid PA driver's license
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
- 12-month position
- Frequent overnight travel for site visits, meetings and conferences
- Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor
