Pre-Conference Institutes

On Monday, March 3, 2008, six pre-conference institutes will be offered by leading experts in the field. There is no fee to attend the pre-conference institutes; however, pre-registration is required. For a brief description of the institutes to help you make your selection, please click here.

These institutes are open to anyone who is interested in attending; however, seating is limited and registration is on a first come, first-served basis. The pre-conference institutes will begin at 1:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM.  Please indicate your first and second choices on the conference registration form. 

 Lunch is available from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM but you must indicate on the registration if you will be having lunch. Event check-in begins at 11:00 AM.

All pre-conference institutes have reached their capacity and are currently closed. If you are a 21st Century Community Learning Center grantee, required to attend this conference to meet grant requirements, please contact Leighann Tate to register at ltate@csc.csiu.org or at 717-763-1661, ext. 138.

 

 

Quality Forums on Afterschool Programs

PSAYDN will be hosting a Quality Forum on Monday, March 3, 2008, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The Quality Forum will be an engaging discussion about the quality of afterschool programs. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about new and existing resources to support program and workforce quality as well as provide critical input around the development of PSAYDN resource materials to support the quality of afterschool and youth development programs. This event is open to everyone, but pre-registration is required. Please indicate on the registration form if you will attend.

Participants are responsible for their own lodging arrangements. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hilton Harrisburg until Wednesday, January 30, 2008. The room rate is $119 per night, singe or double occupancy. Please make your reservations as soon as possible due to limited accommodations.

After February 1, 2008, rooms may not be available or rates may be higher. To make room reservations, please call the Hilton Harrisburg at 1-800-HILTONS. Act 48 Professional Development and Early Childhood Education Credits
The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, offers Act 48 Professional Development and Early Childhood Education credits for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates. Participants must attend the workshop from beginning to end to receive credit. A facilitator will distribute the Record of Attendance form at the beginning of the workshop and collect the required information upon completion of the workshop.

 

Special Meetings and Events during the Conference

21st Century Community Learning Center Grantees' Meeting

On Monday, March 3, 2008, this year a mandatory grantees meeting will be held for all Cohorts 2, 3, 3A, and 4 grantees from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM.

Two staff members, one of whom should be the program director, from each grantee are required to attend. Each cohort is considered a separate grant, so those that have a grant with more than one cohort must send two representatives for each cohort.

All 21st CCLC grantees are also required to attend one of the afternoon pre-conference institutes. Grantees may attend the institute of their choice. The details for the Pre-conference Institutes are provided above.

 

The Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN)

On Tuesday, March 4th at 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, PSAYDN will also host their Third Annual Meeting and Reception. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members and partners while celebrating the success of afterschool programs. This event is for members only.

The Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN) promotes sustainable, high-quality out-of-school time youth development programs through advocacy and capacity building to enhance the welfare of Pennsylvania’s children, youth and families. PSAYDN’s mission is that all children and youth deserve access to high quality out-of-school time programs that promote positive youth development and support the successful transition to adulthood.

Due to inclement weather (snow, ice, flooding, etc.) or other emergencies workshops may be delayed or cancelled. Registrants are responsible for calling the Center for Schools and Communities' Automated Voice Messaging System at (717) 763-1661, Option 3 after 6:30 AM the day of the conference/workshop. The system is updated as conditions change, so it is necessary to call for any changes prior to leaving for your scheduled conference/workshop.
