Consultation in Early Childhood Settings: A Framework for Evidence Based Practice
Presenters: Rebecca Gomez, Professional Development Manager, Southeast Regional Key and Linda Kern, M.Ed., Program Manager for Community Initiatives PA Key
Consultation has become more frequently used throughout early childhood systems to support personnel and families implementing projects, strategies, supports and services. It is recognized that a thorough knowledge of child development and recommended practices in early childhood constitute the content of consultation, it is not a sufficient foundation for understanding the consultation process.
This session provided an overview of a Model for the Consultation Process. This model Framework was proposed, researched and published in 2005 by Virginia Buysse and Patricia Wesley in their book Consultation in Early Childhood Settings. Information in the session defined the 8 Stage process and steps within each stage that support effective, collaborative consultation. (This session was held on June 27, 2008)

Cross Systems Technical Assistance in Pennsylvania - Working Together to Achieve Common Goals
Presenter: Rebecca Gomez, Professional Development Manager, Southeast Regional Key
The availability of technical assistance to programs, practitioners, children and families has increased dramatically. A program will often have multiple consultants visiting their program on a regular basis. The challenge is to coordinate the technical assistance being offered to best meet the needs of the intended recipient(s). This session provided insight into the work that has been done at the state level by organizations providing technical assistance to better pave the way for a more coordinated system of delivery. (This session was delivered on February 22, 2008.)
