The Center for Schools and Communities on behalf of Pennsylvania Parent Information and Resource Center (PA PIRC) is pleased to offer regionally-based workshops “Family-School-Community Partnerships in Action.”
What you will learn
These workshops will provide an opportunity for learning effective partnership and team practices, building the capacity of partners to work together, focusing on student achievement, and building relationships that promote an inclusive environment.
Who should attend
No one can do it alone---parents, teachers/schools and community resources each have a role in launching children into adulthood successfully. These workshops will provide parents, educators (teachers, administrators, federal program staff, guidance staff and parent coordinators) and community-based professionals with the information and tools to help them work together as a team to build a culture that fosters student achievement. Teams already in place or those who are exploring partnerships or wondering how to bring partnership or team ideas to fruition in their community will also benefit from these workshops.
Please forward this invitation to school staff, community organization representatives and others who may be interested in attending these workshops.
Agenda Overview
Each day will begin with registration check-in at 9:00 AM. The session will begin at 9:30 AM and end at 3:00 PM.
Materials and resources will include “Beyond the Bake Sale: The Essential Guide to Family-School Partnerships” by Anne T. Henderson, Karen L. Mapp, Vivian R. Johnson, Don Davies.
Day 1 will focus on Family-School-Community Partnership Practices. Participants will learn about research that supports family-school-community partnerships, processes for developing family-school-community teams and best practices that have been implemented in school districts in Pennsylvania. Parents and professionals who want to learn more about family-school-community partnerships as well as those with experience working with partners or in teams will benefit from the presentations.
Day 2 will focus on Team Building Strategies. Participants will learn successful team building approaches, have an opportunity to work with people with similar roles, and devote time to focus on the team’s work plan, or begin to develop a plan for building a team focused on improving student achievement. Parents and professionals who already work with a team or in a partnership, and who attend as a team will have an opportunity to enhance working relationships and focus on plans. Participants who are not active with a family-school-community partnership or team will increase capacity to create such partnerships upon return to home communities.
Act 48 Professional Development Credits
The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, offers Act 48 professional development credit for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates. Participants must attend the workshop from beginning to end to receive credit. A facilitator will distribute the Record of Attendance form at the beginning of the workshop and collect the required information upon completion of the workshop.
