PURPOSE This workshop will introduce participants to a sustainability planning process. Through the facilitated process participants will clarify their vision and mission and determine what to sustain by focusing on outcomes and end results. Key concepts addressed include: adapting to changing conditions; determining benchmarks to measure progress; developing a broad base of support and identifying key champions; ensuring strong internal control systems; and a strategic financing orientation.
OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Understand that sustainability is a process, not a task.
- Clarify end results and refine strategies and activities to reach them.
- Demonstrate to partners and other stakeholders the value of the work.
- Keep the plan alive; not let it sit on the shelf.
COURSE LENGTH 12.0 – 20.0 hours
TARGET AUDIENCE This session is designed for community based organization paid and volunteer staff and board members. It may include both professional and non-professional participants.
REQUIRED MATERIALS Appropriate handout materials will be provided. Participants are expected to bring appropriate writing instruments. Organization documents: vision, mission, goal statements, existing strategic plans, budgets.
FACILITIES Appropriate classroom or lecture seating along with a podium, wireless lavaliere microphone (for large room or over 35 participants), screen, internet connection, electrical outlets, and a table set up in the front of the room, are required for the effective delivery of this training.
